Below High Bridge - a quick fishing trip.

Well we tried to "beat the heat", 91 today, by fishing early in the day.  It's been in the 90's for the last week or more and I think it's starting to get to us. We hooked up with a few fish today nymphing rather than fishing the dry-dropper rig.  Michelle caught her first Rainbow of the trip a real jumper. Oh and I --- lost a "good fish" when he got the line tangled around a rock cutting the line --- bummer.
We quit about 10:30 and headed to breakfast and "beat the heat".

Tomorrow it's going to be about 85 so we are looking for a little relief.  The guys in the shop are reporting the fishing is slow in the afternoon due to the high temp's and low water.

Chelle and her rainbow trout... it sure is fun to watch them dance across the water.

Making dubbing from yarn is easy using a coffee grinder.  Buy one just for making dubbing, they are cheap, about $15.  Experiment with different yarns yourself to find the right color, texture and float-ability desired for your fly tying needs. Today's goal is to make an orange sulphur dubbing for dry flies. Materials needed.  All you really need is a coffee grinder and some yarn... I use a 12 inch board to measure my "parts".   I cut one part of orange yarn and ten parts yellow.  Then, cut the 11 pieces of yarn in 3/4 inch lengths or "bundles". Keep the 3/4 inch bundles nicely lined up so that they can be added to the coffee grinder in the proper 1 to 10 ratio.  You will end up with about 15-16 bundles. I really like this Mayfly pattern. I played around at the vise this morning and tied a few. Here's one I tied as a PMD on a #14 1xl dry fly hook. It doubles as a spinner and an upright winged Mayfly. The upright wing is also used as a sighter for us old guys and when viewed from the bottom it looks like a spinner. tying my version of Walt's Worm a step-by-step

My version of Walt's Worm is a bit different than most, I think I'll call it the "Korn's Worm".   I have tried to incorporate Frank Sawyer's - Killer Bug and Walt Young's - Walt's Worm, taking the best from both.  I use the tying method of Young and materials from Sawyer. Here in PA and NY this fly is a proven trout taker. It imitates a bunch of flies: crane fly larva, grubs, cased caddis, etc...  Materials Hook: 1xl nymph #12-16 Thread: tan Serafil 200 or 6/0 Uni Weight: 28 ga. copper wire Note: copper wire is used as it was on Sawyer's Killer Bug.  In the sunlight when wet the copper will show through.... so they say - I just know it works and I wouldn't change it! Body: Patons Classic Wool Natural Mix (00229) yarn made into dubbing.
