Quick fishing trip today - BBQ later!

Michelle went for a run today and me well, lets see, running or fishing.... Yeah right fishing of course!
So off to fish the Yellowstone River and do some rock hopping.  I had a good time too catching a couple of nice rainbow trout but whoops, forgot the camera... Then after catching 5 or 6 white fish I remembered my phone, ah-ha I have a camera on the phone!  I'm old school and keep forgetting that I have a "smart" phone now.  I caught some rainbows, browns and cutthroats and of course several white fish, a good couple of hours on the river.

Walked right up on this little band of elk in the Yellowstone River, 5 in total, there was one still laying down in the cool grass.  I let them have their pool and headed for home.

Tonight we were invited to a BBQ with some of our fly fishing friends.  We had a great time visiting with everyone.  The food was over-the-top good with; steak, burgers, chicken, mac-salad, sweet potato casserole, corn on the cob and pumpkin cake.  Steph and Katherine out did themselves.  A little beer, a little wine, yeah a very nice time.

Making dubbing from yarn is easy using a coffee grinder.  Buy one just for making dubbing, they are cheap, about $15.  Experiment with different yarns yourself to find the right color, texture and float-ability desired for your fly tying needs. Today's goal is to make an orange sulphur dubbing for dry flies. Materials needed.  All you really need is a coffee grinder and some yarn... I use a 12 inch board to measure my "parts".   I cut one part of orange yarn and ten parts yellow.  Then, cut the 11 pieces of yarn in 3/4 inch lengths or "bundles". Keep the 3/4 inch bundles nicely lined up so that they can be added to the coffee grinder in the proper 1 to 10 ratio.  You will end up with about 15-16 bundles. I really like this Mayfly pattern. I played around at the vise this morning and tied a few. Here's one I tied as a PMD on a #14 1xl dry fly hook. It doubles as a spinner and an upright winged Mayfly. The upright wing is also used as a sighter for us old guys and when viewed from the bottom it looks like a spinner.
